P.E.  new course for 2007

    1. Symbols in the Pinetum

               Preparing groups for the use of symbols.  Using a map, the teams find cards with symbols on them. 

               They copy the symbols and find out what they mean.

         2.  Orienteering

              Using a compass and markers, the teams use bearings to mark out a shape on the ground

         3.  Problem Solving

              There are 8 short activities to do in this area of Thornham known as Jack's Belt. 

              In teams children run from one to another, the activities involve carrying, running, balancing and manoeuvering.

         4.  Search and Rescue

              In teams, following a map, the children rescue a "sheep"  

              Teams follow different routes to do this activity and are timed

         5.  Ship Wrecked

              Using a map, teams find of items that will help them to survive on a deserted island.  They decide what the items

              could be used for and then build themselves a shelter.

         6.  Point to Point

              In pairs, the children collect symbols at certain pints.  This is a secret code. 

              They find out what their code is and discover information about an animal

         7.  Walled Garden Search

               Team 1 finds 8 objects hidden in the walled garden and adds their own symbol to a map.  They collect the                   objects.  Team 2 uses the map from team one to enable them to return the objects to the correct place
