CONSERVATION

Conservation can be done as an activity in its own right

We visit a small moated site in Lady Henniker Wood.  This is a magical place, well away from the centre.  The original purpose of this site is unknown but there is a platform whole a building probably once stood.  The Victorians planted it with laurel and popular trees for cover for pheasants.  We have had a safe bridge built to the site and over several years been cutting down as much growth as possible with the help of school groups. Our Thornham archaeologist has visited the site and into he future, when it is clear, intends to do a dig there looking for evidence of past use. This activity takes half a day as it is further to walk.
